Days and times of workshops, enrolment information

What do you do at the workshops?

Our workshops follow a specially designed, active scheme that develops students’ musical, dramatic and dance skills. Students do lots of group and individual drama exercises and games, as well as work on singing techniques and general musicianship. Students are taught new songs and sketches, and are given exercises to practice during the week. The scheme builds from week to week, and allows pupils to see how they are progressing and what new skills they have acquired. We also cover specific topics such as preparing for auditions, health and safety, and effective practice. Much of the year however, is taken up with rehearsal for the show or CD recordings, where the new skills the students have learned are put into practice.

Can I still enrol if I missed the enrolment day?

You can enrol at any time, provided there is a place available, and if rehearsals for a show have not begun. Once we are in rehearsal you can be put on a waiting list, and then join us after the show has been completed. Just fill in an enrolment form and return it to Arius with a deposit, and a confirmation of when you can start will be sent to you.

What happens if I miss a workshop because I/my child is ill or on holiday? Do I get a refund of the week’s fee?

The term fees reserve a place for each student at a workshop and are not refunded if students miss a workshop. However, information on what was covered at the workshop, with practice exercises will be posted or emailed to you during the following week.

Will I definitely have a part in the show at the end of the year?

Yes. Obviously, not everyone can have a ‘staring role’ in the show. Students who want to take a major role will be given help in preparing to audition, so everyone will have a fair chance to get a part.

Who gets to sing on the CD?

Every student (assuming they attend the recording sessions) will sing on the CD. Not everyone gets to sing a solo, but as with the shows, everyone gets a chance to audition. The way we arrange the songs, generally means that lots of students get to sing a couple of lines solo, or in a duet; but everyone sings the backing vocal parts, and the whole experience is very valuable for any students who want to become recording artists in the future.

When do you do your shows and performances?

Our shows and performances take place at various times throughout the year, but we always attempt to have the performances at times that do not clash with school exams, particularly GCSEs etc, as well as times when we know local schools have performances, Eisteddfodau etc. Up-coming shows are always advertised on the website, and we send a written notice to parents months in advance requesting information about their holiday plans etc, and do our utmost to avoid clashes.
